speed camera Speed Cameras Dot Org
We support the abolition of cash for cameras schemes in the UK, the removal of speed cameras where accidents have not decreased, and refocusing of police resources to pursue the real menaces of the road: uninsured, unlicensed, or drunk / drug drivers and unregistered, untaxed, or poorly maintained vehicles.

Cumbria?s double whammy speed traps [read more]
24-Dec-04 | Source: North West Evening Mail | Category: New Traps, Schemes & Plans
Comment: Cumbria is wise to acknowledge the race away issue, but we seriously question their ?solution?. Drivers will be twice as annoyed after seeing the second camera and could further increase the chance of inattention, angry driving and a crash.

SPECS camera brought into London to police 20mph limit [read more]
25-Nov-04 | Source: Evening Standard | Category: New Traps
Comment: This creates a serious road safety issue. Once drivers are aware of the cameras they'll be constantly gazing down at their speedometers for dangerous lengths of time instead of looking out for pedestrians and other vehicles.

Nearly half of motorists tailgate on motorway [read more]
25-Aug-04 | Category: New Traps, Schemes & Plans
Comment: Just like speed cameras, this system is designed to make money and not save lives. What has the greatest chance of preventing an accident: receiving a ?60 fine two weeks after you were spotted speeding or tailgating, or being warned immediately at the scene if you are driving dangerously? Police and technology should be used to help motorists drive more safely, not to make money.

New cameras can track vehicles in up to 6 lanes over 2 miles even if they change lane. [read more]
4-Aug-04 | Source: Auto Express | Category: New Traps
Comment: More toys for the police to play with and for Partnerships to raise more cash in speeding fines. Drivers will be looking up at every gantry and podium for these new cameras instead of concentrating on the road. Like all other speed cameras they cannot prevent bad driving or catch uninsured, untaxed and unlicensed motorists.

Long range mobile speed cameras will trap drivers who slow down at the last minute to avoid detection. The new handheld camera (Pro Laser III) is effective from more than a mile away.
26-May-04 | Category: New Traps
Comment: The Police Federation summed this up nicely: "One of our primary objectives should be to provide public reassurance by high-visibility policing. I don't know how an even more covert camera will enhance this objective." Again I remind everyone that exceeding the speed limit accounts for less than 4% of accidents. Speed cameras don't save lives.

Police chiefs plan new cameras to catch tailgaters who travel too close to the car infront. A laser will measure the distance and drivers will receive a fixed penalty.
25-May-04 | Category: New Traps, Schemes & Plans
Comment: We welcome moves to target tailgaters but this system must ensure innocent drivers are not prosecuted because of dangerous drivers who make sudden lane changes and pull out in front of other cars.
