3500 invalid speeding tickets Published: 21st February 2008 Category: Fines & Points Reader's Rage: [136votes] It’s come to our attention that a speed camera has been operating illegally for over a year. The camera is set up to enforce a 30mph speed limit but the road doesn’t have a system of street lighting in line with government regulations to default the limit to 30mph. Therefore the speed limit may only have been enforceable as a single carriageway rather than a road with street lighting.
The camera is located in Lower Luton Road near St Albans in Hertfordshire and a refund will be given to drivers wrongly caught between 19th August 2004 and 25th August 2005. A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has since been put in place for the road which officially lowers its limit to 30mph.
